[Economic Daily] Businessmen in the western part of Seoul have launched the ‘Ministry of Justice Legal Defense Committee for Family Support’ to support the independence and employment of legal defense recipients and their families.
On the afternoon of the 1st, the inaugural general meeting of the ‘Ministry of Justice Legal Guardian Family Support Business Committee’ (hereinafter referred to as the Business Committee) was held at the conference room of Allbit & Co. in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, organized by the Seoul West Branch of the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation. The inaugural meeting was attended by more than 10 people, including protection commissioners and corps staff.
The Business Committee is a volunteer organization formed with the purpose of supporting local businessmen to prevent juvenile crime and community safety, and to help legal protection recipients become healthy members of society together with the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation.
On the day of the event, Chairwoman Jang Yoon-ok, who was inaugurated as the chairwoman of the Business Committee, delivered an inaugural speech and greetings from Choi Jeong-hwa, head of the Seoul West Office of the Korea Legal Defense and Welfare Agency, followed by the presentation of a letter of appointment and a beautiful plaque.
In her inaugural speech, Chairwoman Jang Yoon-ok said, “When I visited the West Branch and ate with friends there, there was a friend who stood out to me, and after eating, the words ‘I wish I had a mother’ that he threw at me as he passed by after eating resonated in my village, and I made a decision at that time.” She added, “I didn't know that what I said in passing, which was a small thought that I hoped I could help create a foundation for children to become self-reliant, would lead to today's founding meeting.”
Choi Jeong-hwa, Director of the Seoul West Branch of the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation, said, “Although the beneficiaries have paid the penalty for a momentary mistake, they need various social conditions and support to become self-reliant and not reoffend.” “The government and the corporation should play a role, but I think we are becoming a brighter and healthier society because there are volunteers who share the same will, so I congratulate the founding of the Corporate Committee today and hope that you will show a lot of interest in the corporation's business in the future.”
In 2024, the Corporate Committee will work to strengthen support for the social rehabilitation of protected persons, including improving the living environment of prisoners' families and supporting the minor children of prisoners and prisoners' families once a quarter, and to promote corporate participation in legal protection and welfare projects, finding sponsoring companies to stabilize legal protection projects, and supporting prisoners' job search and employment through business agreements.
